Actress Rosario Dawson has been very busy lately and also experiencing emotional highs and lows.

She’s promoting her latest movie, “Zookeeper,” starring Kevin James, Rosario and recently received the terrible news that her beloved grandmother passed away suddenly at the age of 75.

“My heart is broken,” says Rosario. “I’m absolutely devastated that I’ll never speak to her again. I couldn’t have loved her more, but I could have loved her longer.”

Rosario has been known to live an extremely healthy lifestyle.

In a recent interview for Shape magazine, Rosario said, “My mom was practicing vegan and raw diets years ago, so I understood eating healthy at a young age. We stopped eating white bread when I was 6.”

As an adult, Rosario listens to what her body wants. “Whether it craves fresh vegetables or foie gras, nothing makes me feel better than having something I really enjoy,” she says. Rosario eats three to five meals a day, depending on her schedule — most made from scratch at home. “Im great at salads because I love chopping things up,” she says, “but I also enjoy making dishes like lasagna and coconut rice with pork chops.” And when she wants a glass of wine or dessert, no problem. “The stress you put yourself through for having a treat is probably a thousand times worse for you than the sugar you just had.”

A longtime yoga devotee, Rosario has recently become obsessed with Pilates. “Leslie Bibb, my co-star in Zookeeper, got me into it,” she explains. “After just a couple of weeks, I noticed a physical change, especially in my posture. Now I stand differently, I sit differently. I don’t love working out, but I can honestly say I miss Pilates and how it makes my body feel. And there’s nothing like it when those endorphins kick in.”

“Since [grandmother’s] passing, I have this sense of urgency and all of this energy to get things done,” says Rosario. “I need to stay furiously passionate for the rest of my life. I don’t want my tombstone to read, ‘She played it safe.'”
