Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam Attends Funeral For State Trooper

As if Governor Ralph Northam wasn’t already in enough hot water, now his wife, Pam Northam, has chosen to reinforce the allegations of racism currently swirling around her husband by contributing with her own questionable behavior.

The Virginia first lady is currently facing criticism for handing cotton to African-American pages, before asking them to “imagine being an enslaved person,” The Washington Post reports.

The incident took place at the Executive Mansion on Feb 21. Northam was giving a tour when she posed the question to the eighth-grade daughter of a Virginia state employee and two of her peers.

According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the incident was exposed in a letter written to lawmakers, where Northam’s actions were described as “beyond inappropriate, especially considering recent events.” The student went on to say, “It was very testing to know I had to go somewhere, and I had no choice as to if I went, I had to be respectful, and be on my best behavior, even when the people in positions of power I was around were not doing the same.”

Since the incident, Northam has released a statement saying, “I regret that I have upset anyone.”

The incident comes at a time when the Northam name struggles to regain any semblance of dignity. Governor Ralph Northam has been at the center of controversy since a photo from his medical school yearbook page surfaced earlier this month, that depicted one man in blackface and another donning KKK apparel.

Despite dogged protests and petitions for Northam’s resignation, the embattled Governor refuses to abandon the office. Instead, he looks to regain the support of the Commonwealth by embarking upon a “reconciliation tour” and has stated that he is determined to dedicate the rest of his term to racial reconciliation.

Obviously, the Governor and his wife will be taking this tour together as they try to re-establish the support of the masses.
