On Monday, agents from the Department of Homeland Security raided 15 7-Eleven stores in New York and Virginia and arrested nine store owners and mangers on charges of harboring and hiring undocumented immigrants, wire fraud and using fake Social Security numbers to pay their workers.
Federal authorities state that the raids are a part of an on-going investigation into human smuggling, money laundering and identity theft according to the AP. The store owners allegedly helped smuggle the workers into the U.S. from Pakistan.
