President Obama, who was partly elevated in his campaign for the office because of his opposition to the Iraq war, announced today his plans to withdraw all American troops from the country by the end of the year.  The move marks an official end to a war that started almost nine years ago with the infamous “Shock and Awe” display of American military might as former President Bush ordered the invasion to oust the late Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.  It was that invasion and subsequent “occupation” of Iraq that fueled such middle-eastern hatred for the Unitede States, and many applaud President Obama’s decision to completely clear out of that country.  A recent poll of American soldiers who have done tours of duty in Iraq found that most of them felt the war was not worth the outcome.
