Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones has selected contractor Tompkins/Ballard for the design and construction of the new city jail. The contractor bidded under the projects $134.6 million budget. The announcement was made during an 8 a.m. meeting in council chambers on Thursday. Mayor Jones said Tompkins/Ballard is committed to minority business and emerging small business participation which was a key component in the contractor’s proposal.
Now City Council has to approve the contractor.
