The Richmond Flying Squirrels will officially open the 2013 baseball season on Thursday at the Diamond with an Eastern League game against New Britain. From all indications, the expectations are high for a great season of baseball on the Boulevard as the Squirrels have bolstered their pitching staff and look to contend for a league title this season.
As always, fireworks and plenty of fan-friendly activities will be a part of the Squirrels opening day festivities, which get underway around 6:30pm. Richmond is the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, and the team has been competitive on the field as well as creative in their outreach to the fans off the field, which probably wasn’t easy after the long association this community had with the Braves.
