Actress Halle Berry’s apparent ‘engagement’ to French actor Olivier Martinez has been thrown into doubt.
A photograph of Halle wearing what was assumed to be an engagement ring triggered the rumors earlier this week, but sources tell TMZ, the ring is just a piece of jewelry, and not a symbol of the couple’s engagement.
Berry and Martinez were photographed shopping together in Los Angeles, with Halle wearing a leather jacket, jeans, and a large emerald ring. That’s when Twitter went into overdrive and various websites announced the engagement and quoted “sources” commenting on how happy they are to be finally tying the knot. Even Olivier’s ex-girlfriend singer Kylie Minogue posted a tweet of congratulations.
However, according to insiders, Olivier Martinez gave Halle the ring purely as a “gift”, and not to mark their engagement. Although the couple are in a “committed relationship” and marriage “could be in the cards”, they were not engaged when the photograph surfaced last week.
Halle Berry was previously in a relationship with male supermodel Gabriel Aubry, with whom she has a 3-year-old daughter Nahla.
She returns to the big screen this year, appearing in ‘Cloud Atlas’, a big budget adaptation of David Mitchell’s best-selling novel.
