Two of the state’s best college teams went into the weekend undefeated, only one remains, that would be the 13th-ranked Hokies of Virginia Tech, who clobbered Marshall on the road Saturday 30-10.  Tech has no time to appreciate their 4-0 mark with the powerful Clemson Tigers coming to Blacksburg next weekend.  The University of Richmond’s Spiders were also unbeaten until New Hampshire rolled into the West End on Saturday and left with a stunning 45-43 victory in the turnover-filled Colonial opener.  The Spiders went into the game ranked 5th nationally, and now face a trip to Harrisonburg to battle 12th-ranked JMU, which knocked-off No. 6 William & Mary.  In Charlottesville, the Cavaliers played hard but were beaten by a bigger and more physical Southern Mississippi team 30-24.  In CIAA action, the Virginia Union Panthers got a big home win over Bowie State, while Virginia State won its home opener 35-20 against Chowan.  Other HBCU action saw Norfolk State with a road win at Charleston Southern, and Hampton was beaten on Thursday night in Florida by Bethune-Cookman 35-31 in a nationally-televised MEAC game.
