Just days after becoming the first pick in the WNBA Draft, Baylor University All – American Brittany Griner publicly admitted for the first time that she is gay.  Griner appeared almost happily relieved to acknowledge her sexuality and embrace it with the public so she can move on with her promising pro career without having the issue weighing on her psyche.  Griner said in an interview with Sports Illustrated, com, that she didn’t know why there was disparity in the fact that coming out as gay is more widely accepted in women’s sports, and she didn’t particularly care what others think about it.   But she offered sound advice to everyone, ” Just be who you are “.

Griner was a three-time All-American at Baylor and dominated the women’s game on the collegiate level throughout her career.  She was the first pick taken in Monday’s WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury, whose fans are already waiting for WNBA Finals tickets to go on sale.  Yes, they’re that excited about the arrival of a player with such promise and ability.  If your team had just drafted a franchise basketball player who stands 6-8, averaging 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots per game, you too would be in celebration mode.
