A man who was just elected mayor got a little too excited celebrating his win. He was arrested for drunk driving. Robert L. Williams, Jr. won the mayor’s race in Sharpsburg, North Carolina by just 7 votes on Tuesday.

An hour after the polls closed, there was a citizen’s complaint that Williams nearly caused a crash at the town hall. Police followed Williams’ vehicle and the car ran off the right side of the road. Williams was arrested and charged with a DWI, failure to stop for police, possession of a firearm and two counts of resisting arrest.
