It was business as usual for the Panthers of Virginia Union University in what has become an annual event owned and operated by the Panthers. VUU won 68-51 in the 2011 Freedom Classic held last night at the Richmond Coliseum over arch-rival and fellow CIAA member Virginia State. It was the Panthers’ 21st consecutive Freedom Classic victory over the Trojans, a streak that began in 1992. Let’s put that in perspective. The Va. Union dominance began when: Windows software was initially introduced, the late Singer/Actress Aaliyah turned 13, and the four officers in the Rodney King beating were aquitted. Virginia State also lost it’s 13th consecutive regular season game, sorry to announce, that is a school record in basketball. Former Thomas Dale HS star Braxton Byerson led VUU with 26 points.
