Your vote is your fundamental right in Virginia and America. Fortunately, there is an election every year in Virginia which means your status should remain active.

As changes to Virginia’s laws went to effect on July 1, 2014, I will highlight the voter ID law. Under the new law, all Virginia voters must present an acceptable form of photo identification to vote in-person for the November 4, 2014 election.

Acceptable forms of identification includes:

*Valid Virginia Driver’s License

*DMV-Issued Photo Identification Card

*Valid Employee Photo Identification Card

*Valid United States Passport

*Government-Issued Photo Identification Card

*Valid College or University Student Photo Identification Card

*New Virginia Voter Photo Identification Card

Please note: If you do not have an acceptable form of photo identification, contact your local registrar’s office  for a free Virginia Voter Photo Identification Card.

If you do not present a photo ID at the voter polls, you can vote a provisional ballot. For more details about the new voter requirements and additional information, please visit the Virginia Department of Elections.
