VCU has fallen out of the Top 25 but still sports a respectable 17 – 5 record, and remain tied for 2nd place in the Atlantic 10 following Wednesday night’s win at Rhode Island.  The Rams had run off 13 straight before falling a week ago to crosstown rival Richmond, then fell at home a week ago to LaSalle University.  VCU hopes the mid-season slump is over as they prep for a home date Saturday night vs Fordham University at the Siegal Center.

The University of Richmond, fresh off the big home win over VCU,  fell to UMass last weekend, then lost again on Wednesday in Philly at Temple University.  UR is now 13 – 9 as they get ready for Xavier University, which visits the Robins Center this weekend.

In the CIAA, the Panthers of Virginia Union return to Richmond from a big loss at Elizabeth City State on Wednesday night, and now host Chowan University Saturday Night at Barco-Stevens Gymnasium.   Meanwhile, Virgina State, fresh off a road win Wednesday at  Bowie State in Maryland, and the Trojans have a date at home this Saturday vs Lincoln University on the Hill.

MEAC action has the Spartans of Norfolk State taking their six-game winning streak into Baltimore to face Coppin State.  Could be a “trap” game for Norfolk as the Baltimore fans are certainly on a Super Bowl high this upcoming weekend.  Hanpton University also making the dash to Baltimore this weekend to place 2nd-place Morgan State.
