Will The VA New Hemp Regulations Take Effect This Weekend?
Virginia Hemp business owners are waiting on U.S. District Judge Robert S. Ballou to decide whether new regulations will take effect on August 15, 2026. The new regulations would limit all cannabis and hemp products sold in Virginia to less than two milligrams of THC per package, replacing the current “25 to 1” THC-to-CBD ratio rule. If changes are handed down by a federal judge, Hemp business owners say the change could force them to remove as much as 90 percent of their inventory and could expose them to criminal penalties. Meanwhile, state officials argue Hemp business owners have had enough time to prepare.
A temporary restraining order is expected before this Saturday’s deadline.
