Montel Williams Is ‘Blessed To Be Alive’ After Stroke

Former TV talk show host Montel Williams is lucky to be alive after suffering a stroke, unbeknownst to anybody back in June. A rep for Williams said the 62-year-old Emmy winner was in the hospital back in June after overdoing it at the gym… but the situation was far worse.

Williams is telling People magazine that he was actually in intensive care for 21 days after surviving a cerebellar hemorrhagic stroke. That’s a rare type of stroke that either causes death or severe neurologic deficits in half the patients it impacts.

“I’m very lucky,” Williams says. “When it happened, I didn’t realize the veracity of what this was. When you start thinking about it those statistics? That’s harsh reality. … I’m so blessed to be alive and I’m not taking it for granted.”

Williams said he could barely talk and was almost paralyzed as a result of the stroke. He said acting quickly and recognizing the symptoms of a stroke probably saved his life.
