Barack Obama Elementary School Opens In Richmond

Students from all around Richmond, VA were welcomed back to school today. Barack Obama Elementary School formerly named J.E.B. Stuart Elementary was one of the facilities that greeted their students with open arms.

In June, the Richmond School Board voted to change the name of the school formerly named for a Confederate General to honor the United States’ first African-American president.

Today, Mayor Levar Stoney and Richmond Schools Superintendent Jason Kamras celebrated the first day of the school year at Barack Obama Elementary School with students, parents, and teachers.
