The Twitterverse has spoken!

After receiving major backlash following the release of the trailer for Sky Arts’ Urban Myths episode starring Joseph Fiennes as Michael Jackson, the TV network announced on Friday that it has decided not to air the program. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the channel pulled the episode after it was met with an onslaught of backlash over a White actor playing the Black King of Pop. His daughter, Paris Jackson, even said she was “incredibly offended” by the portrayal.

The controversial episode focused on Jackson’s rumored road trip from New York to Los Angeles with Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando after the 9/11 attacks and was set to air on January 19th. Sky Arts network released a statement: “We have taken the decision not to broadcast Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon, a half-hour episode from the Sky Arts Urban Myths series, in light of the concerns expressed by Michael Jackson’s immediate family. We set out to take a lighthearted look at reportedly true events and never intended to cause any offense.”

News of the cancellation comes after tons of MJ fans took to social media to express their disdain. The criticism definitely worked.
