Kalief Browder, as a teenager back in 2010 was arrested and jailed for allegedly stealing a backpack.
At the age of 16, Browder was placed in Rikers for three years, two of it in solitary confinement and was subjected to horrible violence…..without ever getting a trial. Browder never pleaded guilty and was never convicted.
After being released, Browder never received an apology nor explanation for losing three years of his childhood, including prom and graduation.
Sadly over the weekend, Browder commited suicide by hanging himself outside a window of his mother’s home. The family is now suing multiple entities in this tragic story which is all to real to some who have been falsely accused and jailed!!!.
