The Virginia General Assembly is in session for the next 60-days. Lawmakers will introduce bills that may or may not be voted into law. Senator A.Donald McEachin, represents District 09, joins Miss Community Clovia on the Tom Joyner Morning Show to discuss a major issue at the G-A this year. The issue is African American business procurement dollars. Senator McEachin said, “we must focus on minority procurement, African American businesses are not getting their fair share of state contracting dollars. It’s time for African American contractors to have a seat at the table to get the contracts they readily deserve.”

Senator McEachin references, the Department of Minority Business Enterprise.  DMBE is a state agency dedicated to enhancing the participation of there small, women -and minority-owned businesses in Virginia’s procurement process.

However, African American business contracting awards remain low according to the SWaM dashboard. View the granting of state procurement contracts here.
