Since the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin case began, we all quickly became familiar with Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law. This particular law allows citizens to protect themselves by any means if they feel threatened.
Zimmerman claimed he was standing his ground when the Trayvon Martin shooting took place, yet it remains to be seen. Another very similar situation of standing your ground took place with Marissa Alexander, a woman now facing 20 years behind bars after suffering through domestic violence with an ex-husband. To stop an attack, she took her firearm and shot off a bullet into the ceiling – not injuring or killing anyone in the process yet she’s now headed to prison.
Helena Jenkins & Lincoln Alexander (family members to Marissa) speak out on her behalf about her incarceration and the relationship between this issue and the “Stand Your Ground” law’s outcome on the Zimmerman case as well.
Listen below as Jacque Reid talks to Marissa’s sister and first husband about the situation live on the Tom Joyner Morning Show.
