He was known across the City of Richmond as “Sgt. Santa” Retired city police officer, Dalton Ricky Duling passed away on Saturday at the age of 84 due to complications from a virus. He will be remembered for his red Santa suit embellished with three sergeants stripes and is white beard and hair. Duling packed a police cruiser with toys and food every Christmas since 1973 where he drove to local, low-income neighborhoods. Sgt. Santa was featured guest at the Radio One and the City of Richmond Citywide Toy Drive press conferences in 2007 and 2008. No word yet on plans for a memorial service. We will miss you, Sgt Santa!
