Parenting: Who has the blueprint?
Parenting: Who Has the Blueprint?
If you have the blueprint, PLEASE share it with the rest of us! Because listen… I really thought if I funded my daughter’s life -housing, education, opportunities, and her dreams—that meant I was doing a pretty good job as a parent.
Whew! Then my daughter, Kenya, had a few choice but positive words for me about my parenting style. And let me tell you…sometimes our children will give us a mirror we didn’t know we needed!
I had Kenya at 41, so my parenting style has been a little old school mixed with new school. I’ve learned that parenting doesn’t stop when they get older-it evolves.
Now that Kenya is almost 20, I’m learning that our relationship works best when we both have boundaries, respect, communication, and room to grow. I’m still her mom, but I’m also learning how to let her become the woman she is meant to be.
So, parents, grandparents, guardians, and village members bring your recommendations!
What have you learned about raising children into confident, responsible, purpose-driven adults?
Let’s talk about parenting, relationships, boundaries, and building a better future for our children and generations to come.
Because there may not be a perfect blueprint but together, we can share the lessons.
You are invited to the Barbershop Talk, One Community on Thursday, August 20th, 6:30PM-8:00PM at Whole 9 Grooming Lounge. Location 1657 W. Broad Street, Unit 3, Richmond, VA. Free event and open to the public.
