Micheal Eugene Archer, otherwise known as D’Angelo was born February 11, 1974 right here in Richmond, Virginia. This neo-soul singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer was a huge success throughout the music industry in the mid to late 90’s.  His high pitched voice was distinct, passionate and very easy to love. Some say his two studio albums, Brown Sugar and Voodoo two of  the most excellent singular R&B albums in 20 years. Both albums sold over a million copies.

Born the son of a preacher, D’Angelo spent a lot of time as a youth in the church signing in numerous choirs. His passion for music started in Gospel but grew from his influences, Marvin Gaye and Prince.  Once soul music entered his life there was no turning back.

Beyond his notable studio albums, he has also done features on soundtracks from movies such as Jason’s Lyric, Belly, and Scream 2. Another memorable feature was his appearance on Lauryn Hill’s, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. The two collaborated on the single, “Nothing Even Matters,” which was arguably the best song on her album.

Since the year 2000, D’Angelo has conducted no interviews, live performances or released any new material, but regardless he will always be recognized as one of Richmond’s finest souls.
