DJ Kool is best known for his chart-topping single, “Let Me Clear My Throat.” Released in 1996 on American Recordings, the song was a worldwide phenomenon. Charting around the globe, it made the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Top 10 in the UK and Netherlands.

A native of Washington, D.C., Kool spent years circulating the underground go-go and rap circuits. This influence would later be found in his music.
