About last night, three women flipped Virginia’s Congressional GOP house seats. Jennifer Wexton (District 10), Abigail Spanberger (District 7) and Elaine Luria (District 2). The official numbers won’t be certified until a few weeks from now.

Democratic Senator Tim Kaine is the winner of the U.S. Senate race in Virginia. Kaine easily defeated his Republican opponent Corey Stewart Tuesday night. Kaine has served as senator since 2013 but he was previously the governor. Stewart is the Prince William County Board of Supervisors chairman. He built his campaign around his support for President Trump’s immigration policies.

This year’s midterm congressional races saw an extremely high voter turnout in Virginia. A number of precincts reported seeing near presidential numbers yesterday. The part of Culpepper County represented by Dav Brat saw an estimated 60 to 70 percent turnout for one of the most hotly contested races in the country. Counties across the state also saw unusually high voter turnouts compared to typical midterm elections.
