After days of ABC heavily promoting Mariah Carey’s headlining performance on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest,” the star definitely brought 2017 in on a memorable note.

Carey experienced technical difficulties during Saturday night’s live performance. The mayhem began when she started to sing her 1991 hit, “Emotions.”

She told the crowd, “We can’t hear but… We didn’t have a check for this song. So, we’ll just say it went to number one, and that’s what it is, okay.”

Carey’s plan may have been to lip sync or simply sing along, however, without being able to clearly hear the track she had no clear indication of where to add her vocals.

“We’re missing some of this vocal, but it is what it is… let the audience sing,” she later continued. She proceeded to work the stage with her dancers.

“I’m trying to be a good sport here,” she added.

Carey appeared to take the unfortunate events in stride, when she posted this on Instagram after the performance:
