According to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), more than 200 reports of hate-based intimidation and harassment have been filed since Election Day.

The SPLC compiled its data from direct submissions, posts on social media and news reports. The group said attacks on African Americans, immigrants, Muslims, women and members of the LGBT community were reported in high numbers since the election of Donald Trump.

One instance submitted directly to SPLC detailed an incident involving a 12-year-old African American girl:

My 12 year old daughter is African American. A boy approached her and said, “now that Trump is president, I’m going to shoot you and all the Blacks I can find”. We reported it to the school who followed up with my daughter and the boy appropriately.

SPLC president, Richard Cohen believes these incidents could pose a huge social problem moving forward.

The Southern Poverty Law Center also found many racially-motivated incidents occurred on college campuses.

According to school officials, a student at the University of Oklahoma was suspended for harassing Black freshmen on The University of Pennsylvania’s campus through a text-messaging app filled with racial slurs and threats of lynching.

The SPLC also reported, “the most commonly reported location where incidents of harassment occurred were K-12 schools … It appears that the election results might have pushed some schools to a boiling point.”
