Dr. Rachael, Is there a such thing as ptsd after being a street walker and never trusting to be in a relationship or thinking everyone is out to use you ?

Yes. I would say that’s a pretty traumatic past and that you may need professional help to get over those emotional hurdles.

Good morning. I’m from the low-end of Chicago where I lived through all the violence of the 70s, 80s and 90s before moving away. I am 100% sure I have PTSD, what can be done about it?

Knowing is half the battle and the fact that you want help is step one.  Speak to your family physician about getting help, but also, look up Dr. Eugene Lipov.  I am a huge fan of his work and he is in Chicago

What is the difference between Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Post-Traumatic Anxiety?

We consider it to be PTSD if the symptoms last longer than a month.

I may be suffering from PTSD as I have been following the violence on the news and have just recently had a threat made on my life at a club. A woman verbally threatened me with a knife and a gun. I can’t sleep at night, and I am very irritable and anxious. Do I need to get help?

Yes.  Please get some help before things get out of hand.

How do I reach Dr. Rachael Ross?

Follow me on social media @drrachael or contact me through my website, drrachael.com. Either way, I would love to hear from you!

My son was at club where the mass shooting took place in Orlando. He is having bad nightmares and crying a lot..suggestions?

Oh my.  I’m so happy he is here to cry with you!!  Yes, Orlando has set services up to assist survivors with the trauma.  As minorities we typically don’t take advantage.  Please encourage him to do so.
