President Obama is making his first appearance with Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail today at a rally at the Charlotte Convention Center. It’s Clinton’s second appearance here in two weeks, but Obama’s first appearance with her on the campaign. They will speak at the Charlotte Convention Center at an event scheduled to start at 3 p.m. They arrive in Charlotte around 2:30 p.m.

The visit means traffic uptown will be a nightmare this afternoon so be prepared.

North Carolina is becoming an increasingly important state in the national election. Obama became the first Democrat in 32 years to carry the state in 2008, and he barely won by 14,000 votes. Romney won the state in 2012. According to the Charlotte Observer, polls compiled by Real Clear Politics show the 2016 race a virtual tie. However, Larry Sabato of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics rates it as leaning Democrat.

Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump will also make an appearance in the state today. Trump is scheduled to address a rally at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh later this evening.
