The pool for mayor of the city of Richmond was crowded from 18 to 13 and now eight candidates have been certified to appear on the November 8 General election. The Richmond Electoral Board certified a slate of eight candidates on Thursday. Last night’s action denied candidate Alan Schintzius’ appeal of his disqualification. Schintzius was one of five mayoral candidates disqualified because of a lack of valid signatures, but the only one to appeal the board’s decision. During the meeting, Richmond business owner Schintzius said the process was confusing and suggested the board makes it clearer in the future exactly what information candidates need to collect to get rejected signatures accepted.

The General election is Tuesday, November 8, 2016. The deadline to register to vote in the local, state and federal race is October 17, 2016. Register to vote or update your vote status if you have changed your name or address at the Virginia Department of Elections.
