Miss Community Celebrates Her Rich History with the first-ever woman to run for President of the United States of America. Shirley Chisholm was the first black woman to be elected to the United States Congress representing New York’s 12th Congressional District in 1968 which set the stage for her run for president in 1972. Former Congressman Chisholm paved the way for all women to run for the highest office in the land. Congratulations to Hillary Clinton who is now the first ever woman to secure a presidential nomination for a major party.
