Tribeca Film Festival 2011 Portrait Studio - Day 6

Malik Izaak Taylor, better known as Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest, died last week due to ongoing health complications. Now, we’ve got a chance to help honor his legacy.

It turns out Jarobi White, an original member of the legendary group, is petitioning to get a Queens park named after the late rapper.

The description of the “Rename St. Albans Park into Malik ‘Phife Dawg’ Taylor Park” petition reads as follows:

Malik Taylor was a local resident of New York. He was a member of the music grouped A Tribe Called Quest. A Tribe Called Quest is a Grammy winning Hip-Hop group that was established in 1985. Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor’s national and international cultural influence, via music and sports. Has left a positive affect on many lives today. St. Albans Park nurtured and entertained the spirit of “Phife Dawg”. Therefore, the it is believed that an honor should be bestowed on Malik Taylor and St. Albans Park. In renaming St. Albans Park into Malik Taylor Park.

Sayres Ave from 180st to Merrick Blvd renamed Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor Ave.

St. Albans park renamed Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor park (aka Tha Phiferdome) lol

His likeness on the mural in St Albans.
