Springtime is near and the energy, especially in New York City, is electric. Wardrobes are being bought, beauty routines are being adjusted, and hairstyles are getting remixed all types of ways. Everyone has their own routine for the fresh new season ahead, including Brooklyn-bred talent La La Anthony.

“In Spring, I like to bring out a lot of vibrant colors and prints,” Anthony told HelloBeautiful in an exclusive interview.

“Putting the black away for little while and experimenting with patterns is what I enjoy. I always think it’s fun when you can do that.”

Anthony has a lot on her plate going into the season of renewal. In addition to being a co-producer for Eclipsed — Lupita Nyong’o‘s Broadway debut— she’s also working on a docu-series with Timbaland, and stars in the upcoming season of Starz’s hit series Power for which we had the pleasure of speaking with her in an intimate party at SoHo’s Crosby Hotel.

Oh… and she’s still the wife of NBA star Carmelo Anthony and mother to 9-year-old son, Kiyan.

But multitasking has always been Anthony’s forte. The 36-year-old started in radio then transitioned into television as a MTV video jockey and has blossomed into an author, actor and producer. She’s managed to balance being a consummate professional while also befriending some of the most talked about women in Hollywood including Ciara, Kelly Rowland and the ever-trending Kim Kardashian.

“People are like, ‘Oh, she’s all about glamour.’ [But] I’m ready to take these Christian Louboutin’s off right now.”

But despite the constant attention, she professes to be a “tomboy” who swears by drugstore staples in her makeup bag.

“My mom thinks that Vaseline works for everything,” she said. “Taking off makeup, hydrating skin, anything that’s wrong. My mom’s Puerto Rican so it’s like a thing. So, I did steal the Vaseline trick. I [also] always keep Neutrogena makeup wipes, because I think they’re the best for wiping off makeup. And I’m a mom, so I always have hand sanitizer and wet wipes for my son. He’s turning nine now, so he’s not a baby, but I’m always like ‘Clean your hands!’ So I always use Aquaphor for his skin and his lips.”

In regards to beauty indulgences, the list is surprisingly short. “Sometimes I’ll indulge in facial products, I usually try a couple different things. But then go back to what works. For me, Tracie Martyn products really work. I kind of splurge sometimes on like, ‘Oh, this has gold flakes in it or 14 carats. This is gonna be cool.’ But I always find my way back to my go-to stuff.”

Anthony also revealed that she loves a trend that’s been making headway over the past year in the beauty industry. “I love to use a Clarisonic brush —I live by that. It’s so funny, when you wipe your makeup off with a makeup wipe and then you go over it with a Clarisonic, you really you have taken nothing off. So I’m definitely an advocate.”

But beauty basics aside, if there was one thing we wanted to know about La La’s spring routine, it’s her favorite fashion items. “I would say leather coats, which I love. All colors, all styles. Oversized, short —everything. That’s where I splurge because that you just throw on top of a t-shirt and all of a sudden you have a look going.”

Adding, “I love sneakers and jeans and sweat pants. But for some reason when I dress like that I don’t get photographed because I’m not going anywhere. So people don’t get to see that, but I’m totally chill and definitely of the mindset that less is more.”

Make sure to check La La Anthony out in the upcoming season of Power, debuting this summer.
