The Monacan Chiefs boys basketball team definitely made believers out of the teams that they were not expected to defeat this season. From bottom seed to winning the 4A State Championship, which is a first-ever for the chiefs. My nephew Wallace Tre Washington, point guard #10, recited the phrase “Make Em Believe’ daily during his morning devotions. Also, the Chiefs wore that phrase on their t-shirts.
It was a history-maker day for both the girls and boys basketball teams from Monacan High School at the VCU Siegel Center. #GoChiefs! #MakeEmBelieve
At Wednesday 4A State Championship finals Monacan was down by 12 points against Lake Taylor, by the way, that team defeated the Chiefs just 14 days earlier during the regional conference. The chiefs managed power plays to win the championship with seconds left on the clock. The final score was 57-53.
