Update: Decriminalization Marijuana Bill Died in the House Subcommittee

As I keep an eye on the Virginia General Assembly with members in the House and Senate, I noticed SB104, decriminalization of marijuana. The bill would have removed criminal penalties for possession of marijuana which has disproportionately impacted young adults and the black community under the current law.

Lawmakers in the House Subcommittee voted against the decriminalization of marijuana possession. There were several bills that failed yesterday. The bills would have lowered the penalties of simple possession from a fine and jail time to a civil violation with only a fine.

The Virginia General Assembly is underway for the next 60 days with hundreds of bills being introduced, voted on, tabled and killed during this session. Miss Community Clovia will keep viewers, listeners and social media followers updated as to the bills that are supported or opposed by members in the House of Delegates and Senate representing your district in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She will visit the sessions, get updates from members in both chambers. Also, reference information from Richmond Sunlight.

The war on the plant continues at the General Assembly. Senator Adam Ebbin (D-Alexandria) introduced a bill that would remove criminal penalties for possession of marijuana which has disproportionately impacted young adults and the black community under the current law. Virginia NORML and RAMP are advocating for SB104 on Lobby Day.
