Last week, I headed to the premiere of Quentin Tarantino‘s eighth film The Hateful Eight at the beautiful Ziegfeld Theater in New York City.

And once again, Quentin does the thing and gives you his own brand of cinematic excellence – that’s why we decided to focus on this film on this week’s episode of Extra Butter. I chatted with Quentin on the red carpet to get some insight into how he’s able to keep cranking out great films while other directors have fizzled out.

“One of the things is that I don’t do other people’s scripts, I only do my own. I’m doing this movie and when it’s all over with, I’ll live life a little bit. Then I come up with what the next story is going to be, then I sit down and it always starts from scratch all over again,” he said.

Tarantino goes on to explain that a premiere is cool, but it all starts from nothing.

“I don’t have to go back that far, less than two years, that none of this existed. It was just me looking at a blank piece of paper, then I started writing and two years later, you end up here. I think that’s really cool and that’s how it always is every single time.”

Quentin has been quoted as saying he’s only doing ten movies in his career, but I asked him if would he reconsider doing more.

“[Ten films] might be eight years from now, but look, I think it’s going to be ten – it might be eleven,” he said. “It’s not going to be twelve, thirteen, or fourteen, or anything like that. Almost everything you said at the beginning, how do you pull this off? How do you keep them on point? How you do them? Well, I probably can’t do that for the rest of my life, so the idea is to get out while I’m still at an artistic high point.”

In the meantime, today’s Extra Butter is all about Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Major Marquis Warren in the film, a bounty hunter just looking for a ride into the middle of a blizzard in order to catch his prey. Jackson tells us why you’re going to love The Hateful Eight, opening in select theaters on Christmas Day.
