It’s the great RuPaul Andre Charles’ 55th birthday, and we’re here to celebrate with a few of the greatest phrases he – and his wildly popular show RuPaul’s Drag Race – have to offer. The show is readying its eighth season, set to premiere sometime next spring. Get your lexicons ready, hunty, and get into these catchphrases in time for the show’s next season.

“If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else?”

RuPaul is an advocate for self-love, so he shouts this at the end of each and every episode. He urges his queens to love themselves at all costs, because that’s the basis for everything. If you don’t give your all to yourself, there’s no way in hell you can even give an ounce to anybody else you come in contact with.

“The library is open!”

They don’t just read people on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, chile. Each season, RuPaul makes his contestants “read” each other, which means to tell someone about themselves in a fun, spirited way. Each queen will go down the line and put a spotlight on the other queens’ most glaring flaws. Always remember that reading is fundamental.

“Sickening!”

This is what you say when you look in the mirror and your face is beat and you’re dressed for the gawds.

“Good luck, and don’t f-ck it up!”

If you’re in the bottom two at the end of an episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, you will have to lip sync for your life. And RuPaul does not want to see any half-stepping (because he will send that ass home), so the queens have to BRING IT in order to live another day on the competition.

“This is not RuPaul’s best friend’s race!”

RuPaul didn’t say this, but Lashauwn Beyond from RDR’s season four did, and it’s been brought up (in many variations) ever since. No, RPR is not about being best buddies, but friendships are formed in the process. It’s inevitable. However, when those friendships get in the way of the competition, it’s time to break out this classic line.

“Charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent”

This is what RuPaul believes are the four basic principles each of his queens should possess in order to be crowned America’s next drag superstar. He mentions it in almost every challenge as a reminder to keep these four objectives in mind. (Kudos if you get the spelling.)

“Sissy that walk”

This is what you do when you decide to pummel the runway and make your walk as femme as can be.

“Come through!”

This is a new phrase from the show, but it is a goodie. For everything good, “come through” means you’re “giving life” or “serving” in the best way imaginable. Keep doing what you’re doing.

Seriously, add these phrases to your dragtionary right now so you’ll be ready for season eight in 2016. In the meantime, season five of RuVealed is airing on LOGO, Sundays at 7 p.m.
