Tracy Morgan is going back to his old stomping grounds — the illustrious Saturday Night Live.
The comedian, who was gravely injured in a car accident last year, will host the third episode of SNL’s new season on October 17, Entertainment Weekly reports. Morgan took a break from comedy to focus on his health and family following the accident that killed his close friend and fellow comedian, James McNair.
This will be Morgan’s second time as host since appearing as a cast member from 1996-2003.
Following SNL’s big announcement, Morgan tweeted a sweet message to fans:
In a tearful interview with TODAY‘s Matt Lauer, the 30 Rock star said he battled depression following the accident.
“I love comedy, and I wonder how I’m gonna be funny again,” he said. “Remembering my identity. What do I do? I promise you one day, when I’m 100 percent, I’m going to grab that mic and I’m never going to let it go,” the 46-year-old said. “I’m gonna be the funniest I can be, ‘cause I ain’t never going to take life for granted no more.”
Other hosts of the upcoming 41st season include Miley Cyrus and comedian Amy Schumer.
We’re glad to have you back, Tracy!
