Yesterday, the White House announced that Deputy Director and Deputy Social Secretary Deesha Dyer will be promoted to Special Assistant to the President and Social Secretary. Dyer was recognized for her efforts to impact children from communities throughout the country. “Deesha shares our commitment to a White House that reflects America’s history, highlights our culture, and celebrates all Americans. Michelle and I look forward to working with her in this new role as we welcome visitors from across the country and around the world to the People’s House,” President Obama said in a White House press release. Dyer’s career path is nothing short of interesting. Prior to working at the White House, she was a freelance journalist who covered hip-hop culture for different publications. She also created a program that intertwined hip-hop and AIDS advocacy.


Kanye West Tops TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in the World List

Although many people deemed Kanye West “crazy” after his public rants, he is a prime example that speaking your mind despite what your critics say can be influential. Yesterday, TIME Magazine released its 100 Most Influential People in the World list and the Chicago-bred rapper made the cut. “Kanye does think. Constantly. About everything. And he wants everybody else to do the same: to engage, question, push boundaries,” wrote Elon Musk. “Now that he’s a pop-culture juggernaut, he has the platform to achieve just that. He’s not afraid of being judged or ridiculed in the process.” Other people who made the list include Kanye’s wife Kim Kardashian, Laverne Cox, Kevin Hart, Lee Daniels and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. NFL Reinstates Adrian Peterson

After getting caught up in a child abuse scandal, football player Adrian Peterson will get a second shot on the field. The running back was charged for beating his 4-year-old son with a switch. The NFL has decided to reinstate Peterson and allow him to return to the Vikings. This comes after he was placed on an exempt list, missed a disciplinary hearing, taped a phone call, and was denied a suspension appeal. Although Peterson will play again, the odds are stacked against him. He has lost all of his endorsements and has to rebuild his reputation. Read more.
