It’s been a year since the Boko Haram militant group abducted almost 300 girls from a school in Chibok, Nigeria, but the wounds following the incident still remain. Nobel Peace Prize recipient Malala Yousafzai, the now 17-year-old who was shot in the head by the Taliban three years ago for bringing attention to the education of young women, penned a letter to the Nigerian girls in an effort to give them a sense of hope. “Remember that one day your tragic ordeal will end, you will be reunited with your families and friends, and you will have the chance to finish the education you courageously sought,” she wrote. “I look forward to the day I can hug each one of you, pray with you, and celebrate your freedom with your families. Until then, stay strong, and never lose hope. You are my heroes.” Last year, Yousafzai visited Nigeria to fight for the release of the young girls. Read more.


Ex-NFLer Phillips Implicated in Murder Against Cellmate

According to reports, a former NFL player is suspected of murdering an inmate at Kern Valley State Prison in California. Lawrence Phillips, a former running back for the Miami Dolphins, is serving a 31-year, four-month sentence following a domestic violence charge. His cellmate, Damion Soward, was discovered unresponsive in their cell on Saturday. Soward was rushed to the hospital and died on Sunday. He was serving a sentence of 82 years to life for first-degree murder. Read more.


DMX on Robbery Allegations: “It means I’m special to God”

Rapper DMX has had many brushes with the law, but he’s trying to keep a positive outlook on his criminal trouble. After being accused of snatching more than $3,000 from a 21-year-old Newark man on Sunday, he’s not only denying the incident, but is claiming that it makes him “special.” “The harder the devil works to destroy me — it means I’m special to God,” he said during an interview. “I don’t recall any incident happening. I make way more than that during a show. Why would I want that type of trouble for myself? It’s not the first thing I’ve been accused of that I didn’t do.
