Although #TeamBeautiful loves a good blow out, there’s something about a good wash-n-go that makes our beauty heart swoon. So each week we ask our favorite curlfriend (at the moment) six questions about loving their tresses, their worst hair moments and what products they must have to achieve their signature looks.

Hello Beautiful: When did you first fall in love with your hair?

Tamara of Natural Hair Rules: It was a Sunday afternoon…just joking! I don’t know the exact day and time. But I do remember feeling this sense of accomplishment because I had a natural hair breakthrough. I had just discovered the Denman Brush and Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner. With that duo I had achieved my first perfect wash and go. “This is what I went natural for…”, I thought to myself. I probably even screamed it out loud.

HB: What’s some hair advice you’d give to your 14-year-old self?

Tamara: My 14-year-old self had a professional stylist that she called mom. So I don’t really have any hair advice for 14-year old me but I do have self-esteem advice. “It’s ok to be…” At that time I believe my ‘be’ was to be unique. I tried so hard to fit in but I still stood out. Tried to be what I thought everyone else wanted me to be. I was the girl with long, pretty hair. I put a lot of pressure on myself and began to identify with my hair. It wasn’t until I decide to go natural, did I shred everyone’s perception of me. I also found myself delivered from other people’s opinions. (Or so I thought. You know, it’s a daily battle I believe all women fight.)

HB: If you could trade tresses with anyone, who would it be?

Tamara: Nobody, I’m very proud to say. I’m content and thankful for all that is me. That came with learning how to work with my hair and not against it. Simplifying my regimen and finding styling options that work for my busy lifestyle, got me here. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely crush on Ebony’s hair aka Eclark6 but I understand the time and work involving maintaining that beautiful mane.

HB: Your worst hair moment.

Tamara: My worst hair moment was a few years ago. I was going by the trim your ends as needed rule which translated into once a year for me. I paid dearly for that one. Within a 12 month time period my hair was shorter than the year before due to split ends and breakage. It really hurt my feelings. I believe it was at this point that I became committed to doing my research and consulting hair and scalp experts for the information that I was sharing on Natural Hair Rules.com.

HB: Your bad hair day solution.

Tamara: I have two bad hair day solutions. If its time to shampoo, then I do that and twist my hair for a twist out. But when one of my experimental hairstyles has gone awry, I will pull it up into a top knot bun.

Amen to all of that! Chime in via the comments below if you have any natural hair tips or stories for us to share on #RealGirlsRealCurls!
