Several Virginia lawmakers in the Senate and House of Delegates support year-round schools. The lawmakers will unveil their support today during a press conference at the State Capitol. Year-round schooling according to the JLARC Review has been demonstrated to improve student performance.
Senator A. Donald McEachin (D-Henrico) joined Miss Community Clovia on the Tom Joyner Morning Show to discuss the unveiling of support for year-round schools in Virginia. Year-round schooling is suggested for “students from economically deprived backgrounds” and not all school systems, said Senator McEachin. Why: The legislators will discuss budget amendments to fund year-round schooling programs in the Commonwealth. Legislators worked together to introduce budget amendments to allow more schools to apply for grants to support year round schooling. Year-round schooling has been demonstrated to improve student performance, especially in schools with high percentages of at-risk students.
