The Virginia State Conference NAACP will hold its 2014 Legislative Day at Virginia’s General Assembly on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the 4th Floor Conference Room West in the Virginia General Assembly Building in Richmond, Virginia.  The NAACP expects members, Presidents of local Units and State Conference officers to attend, led by the Association’s President, Carmen Taylor.

Joining the NAACP to address the groups legislative priorities are the Honorable Terry McAuliffe, Governor of Virginia at 9:00 a.m.  Speaker of the House, the Honorable William Howell will address the group at 9:45 a.m.  Senate Democratic Leader, the Honorable Richard Saslaw, State Senators Mamie Locke, Louise Lucas and Henry Marsh will participate.  Members of the House of Delegates that will address the group are Virginia Democratic Party Chairperson, the Honorable Charniele Herring, the Honorable Jennifer McClellan and the Honorable Joseph Morrissey.  All will come between the hours of 9-11:30 a.m.

The members of the NAACP will conduct meetings with their local legislators throughout the day and advocate for those legislative priorities of the group.  “Medicaid Expansion, Rescinding the Voter Photo ID Law, Full Implementation of the Affordable Health Care Act, Improving the opportunities in Procurement and Supplier Diversity, Ban the Box on Employment Applications, Opposition to the implementation of the Opportunity Education Initiative are some of our primary legislative priorities for the 2014 Session of the Virginia General Assembly,” said President Taylor.
