The 2013 – 2014 College Basketball season has the VCU Rams off to a flying start following wins over Illinois State and 25th-ranked UVA.  VCU is now 3 – 0, ranked No. 10 in the latest AP College Hoops poll, and will tackle the Seminoles of Florida State tonight in Puerto Rico.  Meanwhile, the Cavaliers are now 3 – 1 and have bounced back from the VCU loss to claim victories over Davidson and the Naval Academy.  Virginia will host Liberty University on Saturday in Charlottesville.  The Hokies of Virginia Tech survived a stunble out of the gate to go 3 – 1, which includes Monday’s win over VMI.  Tech has a huge challenge with a battle in Booklyn against No. 1 ranked Michigan State this weekend.

The University of Richmond is now 3 – 1 after  a slight tune-up for this weekend’s tall task against 24th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels in Connecticut.   In the MEAC, Hampton rolled out of the gate with two straight wins but the Delaware Blue Hens visited the Pirate-Dome on Sunday and left Tidewater with a 90 – 79 victory over HU.  Across the bay at Norfolk State, the Spartans are now 2 – 2 after a home loss to the Pirates of East Carolina on Monday at Joe Echols Arena.

Speaking of the CIAA, the Trojans of Virginia State played their CIAA opener and came away with a 71 – 65 win at Cheyney State, just outside Philadelphia.  The victory improves the Trojans record to 2 – 1 as  VSU travels to North Carolna for a double dip in the Mount Olive Tip Off, taking on Barton College on Friday and Mount Olive on Saturday evening.    The Panthers of Virginia Union lost to Johnson C. Smith on Wednesday night at Barco-Stevens Hall in their CIAA opener as well as their first home game.  VUU is 0 – 4 andheaded to play in the Saint Leo Classic this weekend
