KISS – FM congratulates Virginia State University’s Trojans and Head Coach Latrell Scott on winning the CIAA’s Northern Division Football title for 2013. Their victory at Chowan University on Saturday also clinched VSU a berth in the CIAA Championship Game on Saturday, November 16th in Winston-Salem, NC. It will be the Trojans’ first appearance in the CIAA title game since the league expanded and divided into two divisions. Certainly, the fans of Virginia State are excited, and have been since word leaked that Scott was a potential candidate for the job. The former University of Richmond Coach and Hampton University grad’s coaching ability was never in question, and for those who follow college football locally, his hiring was the Trojans first WIN of the year.

Now, months later and nine games into his initial season on The Hill, Scott has only disappointed the rest of the CIAA, because everyone with breath that wears orange & blue is beaming with pride at VSU’s sparkling 8 – 1 record and the chance to play for the CIAA crown AND an NCAA Playoff ticket. Virginia State will close out the regular season this Saturday at Roger’s Stadium against their oldest and dearest rival, the Panthers of Virginia Union University. There is so much history in the rivalry that truly you can “throw the records out the window” when these two get together. The Trojans will then head for Carolina to try and win their first CIAA title since 1996 in the days of CIAA Hall Of Fame Coach Lou Anderson.
