It is open enrollment season for Medicare, Part D when anyone with Medicare coverage can change his health plan and prescription drug coverage.

That goes for anyone who gets health benefits through Original Medicare, a Medicare Private Fee-for-Service Plan with no drug benefit, a Medicare Cost Plan or a Medicare Medical Savings Account Plan.

According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Medicare prescription drug plans cover a wide range of both brand-name and generic prescription drugs, but enrollees are typically required to pay for a portion of the cost of such drugs via coinsurance or copayments. Prescription drug coverage is  available to everyone with Medicare, regardless of income, health status, or prescription drugs used, can get prescription drug coverage.

The open enrollment period runs through Dec. 7.
