It’s that time of year again as NASCAR’s haulers roll into Richmond, VA for the final Sprint Cup race before the Championship Chase, which starts next weekend at Chicago. The world’s greatest stock car racers converge on the Capital City this week for both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide series races at Richmond International Raceway, led by NASCAR points leader and five-time champion Jimmie Johnson.

The Federated Auto Parts 400 also marks the return to RIR of Chesterfield native Denny Hamlin, who missed the spring race in Richmond after an early season crash that left him with back injuries and on the sidelines. The Nationwide race runs on Friday night and features another of Virginia’s racing stars in Emporia native Elliott Sadler, who is currently 3rd in the NASCAR points standings.

Nearly 200,000 fans expected to visit RIR this weekend to be a part of the Race Day atmosphere which is contagious in the Mid-Atlantic region. Live music, interactive events, simulated race driving, and displays of devotion to your favorite drivers are all a part of the festive outdoor party that is NASCAR, and it’s being showcased this weekend here in R – V – A!
