Tuesday is the fist day of school but on Labor Day, Monday, September 2nd, Students can get a brand new pair of school shoes, thanks to  the Richmond Partnership of Churches, at its annual New Shoes for Back to School, Ministry Labor Day starting at from 8am.
The new shoes give-away started at Third Street Bethel A.M.E. Church 8 years ago but out grew the space and for the 2nd year is being held at Second Baptist Church, Ralph Hodge Pastor,  3300 Broad Rock Boulevard. The New Shoes for back to School Ministry will open the doors at 8am and will fit every student with new shoes until they run out.

Shoe donations are still needed, the public is invited to drop off new school shoes at Second Baptist Church on Broad Rock Boulevard or any one of the other churches participating: Branch’s Baptist – Mathew S.  100th Anniversary of the Chesterfield County Fair ends Saturday August 31st, at the County Fairgrounds across from L. C. Bird High School, at Krause and Courthouse Roads. The fair features Tigers, bears and Ligers (half Lion half Tiger) GXW pro wrestling, A SEBRA sanctioned championship Extreme Bull Riding competition, and returning an Elvis Tribute by Keith Henderson, and many other attractions. Jazz On The Hill, 324, N 29th Street, September 6th, 6:30-10pm, featuring The Richmond Jazz Society, Ban Caribe, James “Saxmo” Gates, Hand in Glove and many more, donation $5,  supports Chimborazo Elementary School International Baccalaureate Primary Program Certificate process, Asbury United Methodist Church.
RVA Wake N’ Sun Fest, Sunday, September 1st at Rocketts Landing, from 11am-9pm, features water sports, two half pips, food/beer trucks and more than 50 vendors.
