The Richmond Public School System is reminding all parents that rising kindergartners must have an up-to-date immunization record and rising sixth-graders must have their Tdap booster immunization prior to September 3, the first day of school.

Students entering the 6th grade must show proof that they have had a tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) booster shot within the past five years. According to state law, without presenting proof of this immunization, children will not be able to enroll in school (2013-2014) year until they have the Tdap vaccination.

Parents should schedule an appointment with their child’s health care provider or visit  the Richmond City Health District, located 400 East Cary Street. For more information call 804-482-5500.

Please join the Richmond City Health District for free Tdap vaccinations at the 6th Annual “Parents Listen Up! Teens Are Talking” teen forum Saturday, August 24 at the Trinity Family Life Center 3601 Dill Road, VA 23222. This is a free event for teens from 12 p.m – 3 p.m. Register for the teen forum here.
