Reverend Al Sharpton announced that protests over George Zimmerman’s acquittal will continue all summer. Vigils will be held in 100 cities on Saturday, followed by marches in Tallahassee, Fl. and Washington D.C.
Sharpton has stated that “Florida will be the battleground of a new civil rights movement” and that “this is a movement for social justice.”
There is a set plan laid out by Sharpton and other civil rights leaders.
The first action will take place on Saturday, when Martin supporters will gather for an hour in front of federal buildings and courthouses in 100 cities “calling on the Department of Justice to resume aggressively a civil rights investigation in this matter.”
Sharpton has stated that civil rights leaders will meet in Miami on July 23, 24 and 25 to plan a drive against “Stand Your Ground” laws in Florida and other states. Then they will organize a major march in Tallahassee, the capital.
On Aug. 24, there will be a march on Washington D.C. and Sharpton said corporations that support “Stand Your Ground” laws will be targeted economically.
